The best coves in Menorca for your next visit

Menorca
7 April 2021

One of the great things about Menorca – and the list is almost endless – is that it is an island that is different every time you return, no matter how many times you visit it.

Menorca has the ability to offer you something different every time you stay here. Its light, charm and people manage to surprise you every time you get here.

At PortBlue Hotel Group, we want to help you discover something new every time you come, regardless of how many times you have been before on this magical island.

Which of Menorca’s coves should you go to on your next visit? We’ll help you choose between so many wonders, as we know it can be a difficult task.

Shall we get started?

1.Playa de Macarella (and Macarelleta)

You will find it in every guidebook, in every travel recommendation and on every map, but only once you have seen it will you understand why. Macarella, quite busy in high season, is a turquoise paradise of white sand surrounded by pine trees, holm oaks and silence.  Located on the south coast of Menorca, both Cala Macarella and its little sister, Cala Macarelleta, are part of the Camí de Cavalls. In addition, in Macarelleta part of the dune landscape has been preserved, making the place even more special, if at all possible. We recommend you to visit it in the low season or during the week.

2. Playa de Cavalleria

A wooden staircase leads to a reddish, almost Mars-like landscape, which merges with the crystal-clear, almost transparent waters of the Cavalleria. Located in the north of the island, it is one of the largest, most unspoilt and exceptional beaches in Menorca. The rugged nature that surrounds it contrasts with the tranquillity you breathe when you descend the stairs and dive into its waters. We recommend you always visit Cavalleria, except when the Tramuntana (the north wind) is blowing. Solution? Always check the weather forecast.

3. Cala Pregonda

With the exception of three houses, Cala Pregonda is a practically unspoilt beach where silence, tranquillity and the sound of the waves reign. The 2 kilometres you have to walk to reach it make it a not very crowded beach. Its coarse golden sand, dunes and turquoise waters transform it into one of the most spectacular beaches in Menorca.

4. Cala’n Bosch

If you are one of those who prefer family beaches, you will find Cala’n Bosch very close to La Quinta Menorca by PortBlue. The fact that it is one of the closest coves to Ciutadella, in the southwest of Menorca, makes it one of the most popular beaches for families, although it is not a virgin beach and has been urbanised. The fine white sand and crystal-clear waters do the rest. It is a large beach, with a beach bar and showers.

5. Cala Tortuga

One of the best beaches in the Parc Natural de s’Albufera des Grau. Also known as Arenal de Morella, Cala Tortuga is a vast, unspoilt beach, secluded from the hustle and bustle of the northern part of the island. From its transparent, calm and shallow waters, you can enjoy views of the imposing lighthouse of Favàritx. This beach owes its name to the turtles that live in the lagoon of Morella, which is right next to the beach.

It is highly recommended to explore Menorca without haste, with plenty of pause and pleasure. Enjoy one of the most magical corners of the world.
